Hot Stuff!

Happy Monday!

Thanks for stopping in to check out the cards for today! They are on FIRE and I LAVA them a lot. See what I did there? This is a color layering stamp set and it was so fun and easy to create these HOT cards. I hope you like them too.

The set has two layers for both the volcano and the lava. The smoke is a single layer stamp but you have two different ones to choose from. I did find this set worked best on a landscape A2 or larger sized card base. It's not super large, but it was too big, in my opinion, to use on a portrait A2 card.

Anywho, let take a look at this card making HOTTNESS! LOL Details on products used follow the cards below. Links provided are not affiliate links. However, they are links to my online store named, Scrapsalot. More details about Scrapsalot are provided below and I thank you all in advance for supporting my small business. Items without links can be found online in various places and almost always on Amazon.

  • The images are stamped on Hammermill 100# Premium Color Copy Cover.
  • The black card stock is from stash, likely Recollections 65#.
  • The white card base is Neenah 80#.
  • The stamp set used is the Color Layering Volcano HeroScape set from Hero Arts. It can be found HERE.
  • For the volcano image, I used a Smokey Quartz Dye Ink Cube from The Ton as the light color and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad as the darker top layer.
  • For the Lava, I used Hero Arts Core Ink in Butter Bar and Ranger Archival Ink, Wendy Vecchi in Carnation Red.
  • I stamped the sentiment with the Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad. The sentiment is part of this set.
  • Now, I had a couple of white spots in the lava where I didn't quite line up the layers very well. That's ok those because I used my Copics to fill it in. I picked a yellow (Y08) and a red (R05) that matched pretty close and lightly touched the white areas. *The areas were so tiny though, you could use just about any shade and it would still blend right in.

  • In addition to the same supplies I used on card #1, I added Crystal Pewter Dye Ink from The Ton for the smoke.
  • The sentiment is from the same stamp set and I used the same Archival Red Carnation Ink that was also used for the lava to stamp it.

  • The same supplies were used on card #3. I did, however, decide to matte this one red card stock from my stash.

I always use my MISTI stamping platform when making cards so I can make sure I get a great stamped image every time. When I'm making cards like these, with multiple layers, I always go ahead and make at least two while I have the stamps out and lined up. Why not, right? Here's a link to the MISTI.

Color layering can be tricky, and you can end up with misaligned images. I've learned to use my Copic Markers or colored pencils to fill in any white gaps. I've even used a fine tip paint brush and the ink color used to fill in where needed. You can even tell and the cards look great. So if you have any color layering stamp sets sitting in your stash, I encourage you to pull them out and try them again today! Let me know in comments if you do the same thing or something different to tidy up your images.

As mentioned earlier, Scrapsalot is my small business. We carry many brands of stamps, dies, inks and other mediums for all of your creative needs. We also carry scrapbooking paper and embellishments. If you don't see something you're looking for, just ask and I can let you know if we carry that particular item. We are only online, except for when we attend local papercraft shows. We are located in Central Florida on the Gulf Side of the state. We strive to keep shipping costs low and we're happy to do local meetups if you're in the area.

That's it for today. Thanks again for stopping by and checking these out! Until next time, Keep it Crafty!

xx Crafty Deb
